Step size
Step height: usually between 15 cm and 18 cm. For example, the vertical height from the first floor to the second floor is 3 meters, and 20 steps are planned, then the height of each step is about 15 cm.
Step width: generally between 25 cm and 30 cm. Based on the foot length of adult men, most men's shoe sizes are in the range of 41-42, which is about 26 cm. Therefore, the platform width of the stairs is best between 27-30 cm.
Overall size of stairs
Stair width: The staircase for single-person access should generally not be less than 800 mm, and the staircase for double-person access should be 1000 mm to 1200 mm (1100 mm is recommended).
Stair slope: generally between 20 degrees and 45 degrees, and the recommended slope is about 30 degrees. If there are elderly people and children at home, it is recommended that the slope be designed between 14 and 27 degrees, which is more gentle.
Design and safety recommendations
Handrail height: Generally, it should not be less than 90 cm. The handrail height of the stair platform is between 90 cm and 110 cm (100 cm is recommended).
Anti-slip treatment: The step surface should have good anti-slip properties to avoid slipping accidents.
Material selection: Avoid using solid wood materials, especially in the northern region. Finger-jointed boards have the advantages of small deformation and not easy to crack. At the same time, they have high load-bearing capacity and are ideal step board materials.
