The width standard of loft stairs can be designed according to usage requirements and safety. Generally speaking, the width of stair treads is recommended to be between 25-30 cm, so that people can stand stably when going up and down the stairs.

Width standards for different types of stairs
‌Residential buildings‌:

The net width of stairs with one-way access should not be less than 900 mm (0.9 m).

The net width of stairs with two-way access should not be less than 1100 mm (1.1 m).
‌Public buildings‌:

The net width of the main staircase should not be less than 1400 mm (1.4 m).

The evacuation stairs of high-rise public buildings should not be less than 1200 mm (1.2 m).
‌Commercial buildings and places with high traffic density:

The width of stairs in crowded places such as shopping malls and cinemas should be designed according to the maximum number of people to be evacuated, and the width should usually not be less than 1400 mm (1.4 m).
